What are the commonly used gear testing machines?

gear tester

The accuracy of gears is one of the crucial factors that affect the overall performance and reliability of many transmission systems.

Nowadays, there are various gear-testing machines used to test and inspect the gear accuracy.
  • Gear measuring center: to measure the accuracy of tooth profile, tooth trace, Pitch, and runout.
  • Coordinate measuring machine(CMM): to measure the dimensions of gears in three dimensions.
  • Composite gear tester: to test composite deviation.
During production, there are more measuring machines used to guarantee quality.
  • Vernier calipers, Micrometer calipers, and Cylinder gauge: to measure inside and outside diameters and tooth thickness.
  • Runout tester: to measure side face runout, and circumference(radial)runout.
  • Hardness testing machine: to measure hardness.
  • Micrometer calipers: to find span measurement.
  • Bevel gear tester: to measure tooth contact and backlash.
Except that, there are some devices are used for testing properties and characteristics of materials, such as spectrometer, metallurgical microscope, magnetic particle flaw detector, tensile and impact testing.
